Welcome St. Xavier Alumnae Association Members to Your Web Site!
A Message from the President:
In the bylaws of St.Francis Xavier Academy Alumnae Association the purposes of the Association are set forth in ARTICLE 1, Section 2. First and foremost the goal is to establish an organized body to represent graduates of both the Providence and Coventry schools. Even though there is no longer a school, the Association attempts to maintain the school spirit that St.Xavier’s students had during their years in high school and still possess now as alumnae. This is a legacy that can be traced back to the original Association founders who began the organization in 1906 to provide special support for students and graduates.
For all that time the Association has pursued the other purposes specified in the bylaws. These are to promote unity and good fellowship, to award Scholarships and to honor the 50 year class at Homecoming Sunday. Each Homecoming tries to focus on each of these aims. When alumnae get together, the good fellowship is apparent and infectious. Over the years, the scholarships have been beneficial to those who are selected to receive them. The scholarships are made possible by the generosity of those who want to help further Catholic education. Finally, it is a touching moment when the 50 year class walks into the church at the beginning of mass. Thoughts return to the procession 50 years before when, as young women, all made a similar entrance to receive their diplomas. It’s a time of remembrance and gratitude. Marian devotion, which was an integral part of life in high school is recalled with the blessing and receiving of the gold rosaries. A custom which is a very special part of Homecoming Sunday.
May all those traditions continue for many more years to come. With the support and generosity of the members this will certainly happen.
